Grape and Grain // Thistle Street, Aberdeen

Wow! What can I say! This place is absolutely stunning! I was lucky enough to be invited along to the launch night of Aberdeen's newest wine bar, Grape and Grain, located on Thistle Street in Aberdeen next door to Almondine and just up from Foodstory cafe.

Jeanette Forbes, chief executive of IT firm the PCL Group on Aberdeen’s Regent Quay has been working on this project since 2015. The attention to detail here is amazing and she really has taken the time to put her heart and soul into her new project and its totally paid off! Jeanette was tired of never having somewhere to go in the city for a catch up with clients, friends and family for coffee or a cheeky little wine and always ventured to places in Edinburgh or Glasgow so she embarked upon a journey to create her dream place here in the city of Aberdeen...

From copper lighting to mirrored ceilings the interior design here is fabulous. You can wirelessly charge your phones in the private drinking pods and the attention to detail even goes as far as the bathrooms where they have been finished off with beautiful herringbone tiles. You will also notice that there are no TVs anywhere within the bar as Jeanette wanted to get people talking again and enjoying each others company and conversations. They have also installed a baby grand piano for music nights, including jazz sessions and plan to hold plenty of events from cheese and wine pairings to meet the brewer nights with some of Aberdeen's local breweries...

The wine list here is phenomenal and has been carefully selected from Berkmann Wine Cellars by Jeanette and her team, they have a small selection of local gin's from Esker to Porters and have plenty of local craft beers from Fierce Beer and Spey Valley Brewery if wine isn't your thing. They don't really have much of a kitchen here so the food is going to be things like cheese boards, and antipasto, very social sharing foods rather than full blown meals. I think this is actually quite nice as picking at things while socialising is right up my street.

This place truly is something unique and I feel it's something Aberdeen has needed for a long time now. If you have a special occasion or event coming up soon be sure to call and book yourself into one of their private drinking pods! They are only open from 4pm until 11pm so if it's just casual drinks after work to pre drinks before a night of dancing in Soul or Babylon be sure to pop on in and let them know you heard it first from me that this place is truly something special!
